The value of relationships
Started out this morning being very frustrated. My mom was telling me how she exchanged the jade bangle I bought for her when I went to China a few years ago with one of her neighbourhood friends for another bangle. And she showed me what she got in return... it was a far lower grade of jade than the one I've bought for her...
Her reasoning?? She couldn't fit into the one I bought since she put on weight, so she decided to exchange it for something she could fit into. She even said that there's value in keeping gold but jade and precious stones have little value in collection. At that point, all rational thought left me. I couldn't believe what she did. She exchanged a jade bangle that was worth S$400 for some jade bangle that probably cost less than a quarter of that price!!! And it was not the money that was bothering me... how could she bring herself to give away something I bought specially for her, knowing full well that I bought it specially for her.
It is a pity that she couldn't fit into the bangle but the value of the item is not just in the dollars and cents. It was in the thought that went with the act of buying something expensive for her. I knew what poverty she went through when she was young and the struggles she went through to bring us up. She had always wanted a good piece of jade, whether it fits or not and never been able to afford it. I bought it for her, because I know she would love it. And she GAVE IT AWAY!!! Whatever happened to the value of love, of mother-daughter relationship that went with that little token from me??
I didn't know whether to be angry, frustrated or sad....

Yummy...
Finally went to the Japanese restaurant that I liked and had the long-desired Japanese meal.... totally yummy!! The name of the restaurant is Matsuo Restaurant, located at Goldhill Plaza - the one that looks like an orange-colored rocket near Novena MRT Station.
They've recently renovated their restaurant so instead of having that old, dingy sliding door for an entrance, it's now in modern veneer finish. However, there's still no signboard upfront so it's either you know the place or you'll definitely miss it. It's just right next to the Internet gaming centre at Goldhill Plaza.
KK ordered a Matsu Bento (the original name was longer and I can't remember it) and I had the Saba Shioyaki. Of course, we shared so we can have a taste of everything... keke... The bento is really a value-for-money deal because it gives you a taste of everything, from sushi to sashimi to tempura. The Saba Shioyaki was grilled perfectly.... just a perfect touch of natural fish oils with a very tiny slight hint of salt to bring out the fresh and sweet flavor of the fish. Yummulicious. And the best part is, the ingredients are fresh!!
If you ever thought Sakae sushi or any of those conveyor belt stuff are good... think again!! And try out this place. But note the operation hours though... they are usually open for lunch and dinner only... which means they close abt 2 pm and open again abt 6 - 7pm (not sure of dinner hours). Lunch hours have less people than dinner time, so might be a good chance to enjoy the quiet comfort of a cozy family restaurant.
*wish I took photos..*

I want my sushi!!!
I've been looking forward to this for more than 3 weeks and curses to that stupid skin allergy that hit me just before I got back to Singapore... and now I've to stay away from seafood for a week... which means I can't get my favourite sushi meal till this coming weekend!! What a torture...
Had a slight cast of stomach infection or mini-food poisioning, whatever you call it when I was into my last few days in India and as a result of the medication I took to cure that, I had a skin allergy. Imagine trying to sit still in the plane for 4 hours trying not to scratch any of the itching red rashes... grrr...
Good thing my ever-so-reliable family doctor was on duty on Friday. Went to see him even before I had a chance to catch up on my jet lag and got some medication for the rashes... works wonders. After a nap, all the red dots on my face and skin were gone!! Yippee.... now to observe a strict non-seafood diet so that I can get my long-awaited sushi this weekend!!!!

How can anyone be so stupid??!
I'm so tired... because I've told this stupid ad agency to change the creative for an ad more than 6 times and they are still not givin me what I want! This is really getting ridiculous!
How many times do I have to tell them we don't like that stupid reflection on the floor interferring with the headlines of the ad?? I cannot believe the stupidity of these people... and even after I did a sample of what i want in photoshop and showed it to them, they can still get it wrong!!!!
Argghhh!! Wish these people won't waste my time like that... just stop being stubborn and give us what we want... !!!! grrr... *feeling downright murderous right now....*

Paper Cranes
One for the day when we first met,
Two for days we spend as friends.
Three for days of fun and laughter,
Four for days of chatting till the day’s end.
Five for weeks of meeting for movies,
Ten for weeks of outings and dining.
Fifteen for weeks of deeper understanding,
Twenty for weeks of knowing each other’s mind.
Ten for months of wondering if there’s more
Twenty for months of being unsure
Thirty for months of honeymoon coupledom
Forty for months of just being together
Twenty for the hours we spent apart,
Forty for the hours doubt left its mark.
Sixty for the hours tears fell on their own,
Eighty for the hours of knowing it’s not meant to be.
And five for the loving memory of the one we love most,
365 paper cranes in a bottle.

Romanticist huh??
You scored as Romanticist. Romanticism encourages society to look backwards to find our solutions. Your rationale is that things were much better a few hundred years ago so we should thus look back to those times and replace them in our modern society. You believe in a simple life and that the complexities of the modern world have turned it upside down.

Movies movies movies
I've lost count of the movies I've watched over the past week. AXN, Star Movies, HBO... those are the regular channels I surf every nite. And I've watched quite a few too... Finding Neverland, Tuxedo, Batman Returns, The Grinch... etc etc... not too bad. At least something I enjoy... kekeke ....
Have spent the first of 3 weeks here in Bangalore and with all that traffic problem getting anywhere during the evenings after work, I really don't feel the motivation to move around and explore the city. Maybe after work today I'll do that... as it's a saturday and traffic is much lighter... was thinking of spending just half a day at work instead of the full day.
So far so good... tho Indian food is still not my favourite kind of diet, I find that I can live with some meals here and there... Been substituting with Chinese food wherever I can find it... and of course.. the trusted instant noodles and soups. If I happen to go shopping later, will have to drop by a supermarket and pick up some more stuff for my room, in case I don't feel like eating out.
Hmm... was just wondering... anyone knows if India has any history of eating exotic stuff like snakes, insects or other kinds of meat?? kekeke.... just want to know...

A workaholic or slacker?
Congratulations, you've found a good balance between work, family and relaxation. You work hard at the office but understand the value of keeping your job in perspective. You also sometimes take on extra tasks for your community or family. But you do it with a sense of joyful exuberance rather than because someone guilted you into it. Your home might not be the cleanest in the country, nor your wardrobe the most up to date, but that doesn't bother you. You choose the things that matter to you and focus on them. You also know when it's time to stop, and have no qualms about spending an entire day accomplishing absolutely nothing. Of course, there's no such thing as a perfectly contented person, alas. Take some time to weigh your well-being to find out what really makes you happy. Then shake things up a little with our Break Out of Routines Weekend Healer. You'll be amazed by the difference.
